Today is known as giving tuesday...a day after all the post- thanksgiving shopping.
But in the bluegrass, the gift of donations lasts the entire week.
The good giving challenge starts today - and as abc36's alexus larson learned the goal is to raise millions of dollars for more than one hundred local non- profits.
Tuesday morning - mayor linda gorton declared it good giving challenge week.
It's the bluegrass community foundation's ninth year of the challenge... and this year is the biggest one yet.
There are 131 non- profits participating including the humane society, the hope center, and habitat for humanity.
"we want to just boost the spirit of philanthropy in lexington and surrounding counties."
Last year, the challenge raised around 1.5 million dollars.... and has brought in more than 10 million since it started.
"this is year nine it's time to break our record.
Let's break it."
It's easy to do.
You just log onto bggives.org...click on the organization you want to donate to...and select how much money you want to give.
And that's not the only way non- profits can earn.
Each day - there's a challenge...that can bring in even more...such as incentives for a facebook like competition and prizes for earning a certain amount of money.
"we have a fun trivia game.
It's available through the quiz fun app.
You can play trivia just win prizes for your non- profit."
"there's just really, really any sort of charity you could want to support, they are there."
The good giving challenge lasts the entire week through monday.
