International day of charitable giving.
This year a beautification group in carthage is asking you to keep your dollars local---raising money for future projects.
Koam's kate kelley tells us more about "vision carthage".
Since 2011, vision carthage volunteers have been working to improve the town, planting flowers year round and adding seasonal decorations.
"we just try to improve carthage in any way that we can, beautifying it, restoring it, revitalizing it, making suggestions to the city for improvements."
The work never ends for the group, constantly looking for ways to make carthage better.
"we made some plans about what we wanted our goals to be for the upcoming year and some of those include sidewalk improvements, making carthage more walkable, doing some restoration for the city entrances and beautifying those as well, working to improve the parking lots."
Standup: vision carthage does projects all around town, but here on the square, business owners are especially taking notice.
"i think making carthage look nice makes people feel better about it which makes people feel better about it which makes people wanna be here which makes people wanna invest here, and it's just building those blocks of just attraction and interest and so it's a really great thing."
To pay for upcoming projects and new christmas decorations, nats: "we'll need to replace him here pretty soon."
Vision carthage is calling on the community for support, hoping to raise $1,000.
"people when they volunteer in a community, they buy into that community and to the social structure and the business structure so we think it's very important to do jobs, projects, that volunteers can get involved with."
"we're always looking for people to come out and help us."
