A community meeting on schools tonight is met with passionate feedback.
The meeting surrounded a preliminary report over hamilton county school facilities.
That's tonight's top local story.
"we're not being rude.
We're extremely passionate about our facilities and about our school and our community."
A community meeting at lookout valley middle/high wasn't short of passionate response.
The meeting was for mgt consulting group to get feedback on their preliminary facility report.
The report gives each school and preliminary recommendation s for the future.
Mgt director dan schmidt: "from bricks and mortar to program deficiencies, are the classrooms big enough do they have the right furniture, fixtures and equipment.
We looked at the demographics in the area, did an enrollment forecast.
We got a capacity calculation for each one of the schools so we know which buildings are half and have empty or over utilized or even under utilized."
For lookout valley, the report's initial suggestion is for the elementary school to close and move students to lookout valley middle/high.
That school would then be renovated and added to make that a k-12 building.
The report recommends numerous school closures, renovations, and additions district wide.
Many residents spoke out about that and how the report was put together.
Mgt director dan schmidt: "we realize that the preliminary recommendations are very data driven and they're a little unemotional and maybe a little detached.
We recognize that but that's why we have these community engagement sessions so that we can hear the community say i like that part, that part really doesn't make sense you've really gotta think about the other aspect of our community so that it's the right solution for here."
Mgt director dan schmidt says the report and recommendation s are preliminary and will be changed before a final one goes to school board in march.
