Public Meeting held in Old Forge Thursday over Proposed Project to replace railroad tracks with a re

Planned... over the proposed remsen to lake placid travel corridor took place in old forge good evening everyone i'm jason powles.

Thank you for joining us.

It's a story newschannel two has covered for the last several years....the remsen to lake placid travelorridor.

Quite a controversial story at that.

Tonight in old forge..a well attended public meeting on the matter.

This is your top story tonight.

People who live in and vacation in the adirondacks came to old forge to speak and listen to representatives from the state dec and department of transportation about a proposed project to rehab train tracks between remsen and tupper lake.

The other half of the project includes removal of tracks between tupper lake and lake placid....to be replaced by a recreation trail.

.

A majority of those who attended tonight's meeting agree with the project.

Those we spoke with say the recreational trail would be a huge economic development to the region.

"it's not getting rid of the railroad the railroad will still run between utica anbigoose.

Nothing will change in that perspective.

But what we really need in the adirondacks is wintertime business and removing the trac ll mean aleast another 6-8 weeks worth of riding season for us.

"from an economic standpoint i think it will bring re visitors to the area.

Then the train ever will.

If you ok at the snowmobile community and where the riders are riding now and how they want to travel.

That corridor there is very importanfor allf us to get to some of these communities that we normally can't get to."

Tonight's meeting was supposed to be the only local meeting on the matter.

But senator joe griffo had one more date added.--dembee state office building.

You have until january 8th for public comment.

The total cost of the project is 44.8 million dollars.
