New ruling endangers SNAP benefits for over 700K Americans

People could be left without benefits after president trump's plan to cut more money from food stamp programs for people who don't meet certain requirements.

Action news now reporter karen alvarez shows us what this could mean for the people in shasta county.

This would mean that a significant amount of people here in shasta county would be affected.

A spokesperson from the shasta county health and human services tells me that they don't know the exact number of people that could become affected.

However, the proposed rule would limit the amount of time an "able-bodied" adult without dependents can receive snap benefits to 3 months within a 3 year period.

Health officials at the shasta county health and human services agency tell me that one of the main requirments is that people will have to show proof of employment or that they are seeking job training to still be eligible for the prgram.

What we're hoping to do is to funnel people into our calfresh employment and training program so that they can stay on calfresh and be doing some employment training and that will meet the requirment.

I'm told that anyone who would like to learn more about enrolling into job training, email ([email protected]
