It's 6:5 .... time for the morning sprint as our team gets you ready for the weekend with more local news.

We start here in madison... where police are responding to allegations against a former officer.

56-year-old morris reid is facing criminal sex charges against a child after bein arrested in florida.

Reid hasn't been a member of the department since 20-13 ... but madison police started investigating him in july ... when a madison woman reported crimes involving him that started in 2009.

The victim was 15 at the time.

Reid quit the department before being fired while the department looked into other allegations against him.

Breaking overnight... a man is in the hospital with a gunshot wound this morning -- and police are trying to learn more about the circumstances leading up to his injuries.

Officers say he showed up to the s-s-sm health location on park street... with a gunshot wound to his arm.

Anyone who knows something -- or might have seen something -- should call crime-stoppers at that number there on your screen.

Another arrest is made in a deadly shooting in madison last weekend.

Police arrested 18-year-old brandon hernandez on tentative charges of harboring and aiding a felon.

Police say hernandez was the getaway driver in the shooting that left 18-year-old gunnar holum of dodgeville dead.

We're learning the home of late fire-captain chris truman is now included in an alleged funeral burglary scheme of a former jefferson- county deputy.

Janelle gericke is accused of targeting homes of people who were away attending funerals.

A criminal complaint alleges gericke was found standing on the front porch of a home belonging to a quote 'deceased lake mills municipal employee' between january 5th and 6th.

Those were the days family and friends publicly paid their respects to truman.

The associated press repor a significant launch or test would mean the end of north korea's self- imposed ban and would raise tensions in the region.

House speaker nancy pelosi has yet to send the impeachment articles against president trump to the senate.

Pelosi says she's waiting to hear more from majority-leader mitch mcconnell... about how the impeachment trial will be conducted.

Mcconnell says talks are at an impasse right now... the sticking point: whether new witnesses would be allowed to testify before the senate.

Seven of the leading democratic presidential candidates were on stage in los angeles thursday night.

It was the smallest field for any of their six debates to date.

The candidates sparred over solutions to climate change and income inequality.

However, all said they believe house democrats did the right thing by impeaching president trump.

We're just one signature away from avoiding a federal government shutdown by the end of the day.

The senate approved a one- point-four trillion dollar spending deal to keep the government funded.

Now that they've passed both the house and the senate, it goes to president trump for his signature.

The democratic- led house is giving president trump an overwhelming bipartisan victory... on a re-negotiated trade agreement with canada and mexico.

The house approved the dl on a 385 to 41 vote.

The bill -- commonly known as 'u-s-m-c-a' -- now goes to the senate.

Assembly speaker robin vos says legalizing medical marijuana won't happen next year.

Despite having broad support... vos says it'll be hard to come to a consensus because of various concerns from republicans, law enforcement and the medical community.

Three students could be facing charges for making a threat to marshfield high school.

Police say a 'specific threat' was found in a bathroom stall earlier this week... and school officials immediately sent students home as a precaution.

The next day -- an 18-year-old and two 17-year-old boys were taken to jail.

District officials say the threats were made to disrupt classes.

Students in middleton are planning to walk out of class today ... more than a week after the original protest was postponed over a student threat.

The walkout was originally planned for last wednesday ... to ask the district to do more to help sexual assault survivors.

A threat against that walkout led to classes being cancelled at middleton high school and clark street community school.

Three students were identified for making the threats ... and were suspended.

Nurses with the uw health system say they're forming a union... and want the hospital to voluntarily acknowledge them.

Since act 10 removed the union the nurses did have... many say they've seen factors that play into patient safety go down.

The nurses say there are usually not enough nurses working for the amount of patients they have... which can lead to unintended consequences in patient care.

An update to a story about a man most of you probably know or have heard of by now.

Gene weittenhiller asked for as many christmas cards as possible for his dying wish.

He has stage four pancreatic cancer.

You all have helped make his wish come true and then some.

He's received 50 thousand card so far and hundreds of packages.

His family cannot thank everyone enough for the outpouring of love and support you all have shown him.

His final message for everyone... is to not take anything for granted and make sure you hold your loved ones tight this holiday because.

He says tomorrow is not promised to anyone.
