Three big trucks plowed into a tour bus that swerved into an embankment, closing a major highway across the state.

Olivia Chan reports.

A tour bus crash in Pennsylvania set off a deadly chain-reaction on Sunday (5 January 2019).

Around 60 people were injured around 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The tour bus was headed downhill when it swerved into an embankment and rolled over.

Two tractor-trailers plowed into the bus and a third big rig slammed into the other trucks.

Another passenger car was also involved in the pileup.

That's according to state police spokesman Stephen Limani: "The vehicles are so entangled and it's such a mess, [...] That passenger bus had several different people who were on that bus.

The majority of those people are people from different countries and the majority of them don't have English as part of their language." The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

But Limani says motorists reported deteriorating weather conditions at the time of the accident.

The crash forced the closure of an 86-mile stretch of a major highway across the state, adding more pressure on post-holiday traffic.
