Sri Lankan wildlife officials rescue baby elephant stuck in mud pit in eight hour operation

Wildlife officials in Kekirawa, Sri Lanka rescued a baby elephant that was stuck in a mud pit in an eight-hour-long operation on February 8.

The baby elephant is believed to have fallen into the pit having wandered away from the Kalawewa National Park searching for food.

The elephant calf rescue operation was interrupted by the mother and the calf was rescued only after wildlife officials chased the mother away.
