Animal rights protesters gathered outside 'An Evening With George Monbiot' at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in central London on Tuesday evening (February 11) after Monbiot was filmed shooting and eating a deer, despite claiming to be vegan.

The vegan journalist appeared in a Channel 4 documentary last month, 'Apocalypse Cow: How Meat Killed The Planet'.

He appeared emotional as he joined stalkers to shoot and kill a deer, but later ate a venison burger made from the animal's flesh.

His defence was that in Scotland deer numbers must be brought down to allow more trees to grow.

Lesley, the organiser of the protest who came dressed as the Grim Reaper, read from a leaflet she was distributing to attendees, "real vegans do not exploit animals as food no matter how common or rare the species".

She also told the filmer, "it won't bring the deer back, but we would like him to accept that this was wrong" and to "put away his ego and his arrogance - because he hasn't responded to our communications on the matter" George Monbiot is best known for his environmental and political activism.

He participated in the 2019 Extinction Rebellion protests where he was arrested for defying the ban on protests in London.
