Midmorning With Aundrea - February 21, 2020 (Part 2)

(Part 2 of 2) In an age of social media, there's a renewed push to get our manners in check.

Etiquette is making a comeback.

And an 18 year old woman wants to build a monument to the working women of World War 2, better known as "Rosies".

In a time when "ghosting replaces a polite decline and we spend more time posting selfies than meeting face- to-face, there's a renewed push to get our manners in check.

Naomi ruchim went to burlington, vermont for a lesson in modern- day etiquette from one of the most legendary names in the game.

If there's ever a time to mind your manners... it's while meeting lizzie post.

Etiquette these days is so much more about the individual, how you want to present yourself she and her cousin dan post senning are great-great grandchildren of the iconic "emil post"... wh literally wrote the book... "etiquette" back 1922.

With their weekly podcast... lizzie: hello!

Dan: welcome to awesome etiquette.

And business seminars... photos..

Lizzie and dan now run the "emily pos institute" i burlington...where they also update the original book with modern manners... like prioritizing people over cell phones we travel and speak and promote etiquette in person in a world where it's easier and easier to get information but that human connection is really at a premium nearby, at the university of vermont... all undergraduate business students are required to take three courses - in those "soft skills" y just can't learn from a textbook.

They're focused on things like networking, things like dressing for success, things like business etiquette, how to introduce yourself, how to shake hands.

Students tell us it's the little things they're learning that go a long way.

What to wear at a meeting, when to write a thank you note, or, should you order dessert at a business lunch.

So many people learn these hard skills in class.

You learn how to make a balance sheet, you learn how to make an excel spreadsheet but you don't learn how to interact in a professional manner, thater, that is really what sets you apart.

Naomi: is etiquette dead?

Lizzie: laughter - never.

It will never die.

As long as two people come together and their behavior affects one another, you have etiquette according to emily post.

Society has changed since the days of their great-great grandmother... but to the posts, kindness and courtesy never go out of style.

Some of america's greatest heroes in world war two never left the u.s. and no one has championed their story quite like a young lady who was born nearly six decades after the war.

Nikole killion has the story.

I think women should have a rightful place in washington, dc 18 year old raya kenney wants to build a monument to the working women of world war ii.

They are better known as "the rosies," t women who donned overalls and went to work as riveters, welders, and in other male- dominated jobs during the war.

Your inspiration was the movie " league of their own" why tha movie it was the first time i had seen women taking a role that as man had held previously and that a woman had never held the v formation symbolizes victory raya built a model of her monument for a 5th grade school assignment i just wanted to change the narrative.

Even at 10?

Even at 10 raya is in touch with one of the surviving rosies.

98-year-old phyllis gould lives in california and worked as a welder in a bay area shipyard.

I actually just loved the work raya and phyllis have never met in person, but they share a common goal.

It's so perfect it's just incredible.

And she's just a determined young woman.

And she'll get it done too with the support of dc's delegate, she is ready to tackle any hurdles along the way.

And she still gets inspiration from the rosies have to keep that motto in mind.

We can do it.

There are setbacks, it takes a long time, there's a lot of waiting for things to be done, but we can do it nikole killion.

Cbs news.

Washington we'll be right back that and more on the next midmorning.
