Boyd's Eli Evans Scholar Athlete of the Week

Has revitalized the boys basketball program back to being a serious playoff contender.

The bucs' recent success has been in large part thanks to sharp shooter eli evans -- whose talents aren't just confined to the court.

Evans is this week's scholar athlete.

Josh templeton: "when we need a bucket, he's got a way of making them, and he scores them in bunches, too."

Boyd buchanan senior eli evans is one of the top scorers for the bucs.

However, you might not be able to tell by his attitude during the game.

Preston edmondson: "he's like the silent killer.

He doesn't say anything.

He's real quiet.

Like, during the notre dame game, when he had a couple rolling, he showed some emotion, and i was like, 'i don't really see that much.

It's kind of weird.'" templeton: "i've seen him show a lot of emotion when we're getting big stops defensively, so it's a lot of fun to see.

He's competitive.

He wants to win.

He doesn't really care about much else.

He just wants to win."

The subdued stud has taken on a leadership role, not just on the court, but as a wide receiver for the talented football team as well.

Eli evans: "i'm not really the biggest vocal leader.

I try to lead by my actions and what i do on the field and off the field."

Edmondson: "he's a quiet leader.

... it shows you don't have to always be the loudest guy to have to lead people."

There's no need for words when your performance speaks loud enough.

Evans: "no matter whatever sport you're playing, you're going to have adversity, and you're going to have to fight through that, and you can't quit, no matter if you're down by 21 in football or 15 in basketball, you can't quit.

You keep fighting."

Templeton: "he just works hard every day at practice.

He's a guy that can score a lot of points but he's unselfish.

It's the other stuff he does that makes our team so much better.

It's the rebounding.

It's the guarding.

I mean, he guards the other team's best player a lot of times.

It's the ability to put somebody in an open spot.

I mean he's just a special player."

Edmondson: "he shows us every day, that's somebody you want to be like."
