Brent Wynn discusses the importance of face guards in hockey.

Full facial protection for kids playing minor hockey is mandatory.

It usually comes in a wire cage or a full clear visor.

The important thing to remember with full facial protection is to get it fit properly by a qualified retailer in your area.

One of the things to remember is that with helmets, helmets are sized by circumference of head.

Cages are sized by length of face.

So it doesn't necessarily mean that you need a medium cage if you're wearing a medium helmet.

So make sure that you get fit properly by a qualified expert in your area for full facial protection for the kids playing minor hockey.

For old timers or people outside of minor hockey a lot of times what they'll wear instead is a half visor as it's referred to, again giving good protection for the eyes and for the nose.

You're subject to blows on the chin and in the mouth, but a mouthguard will help in that regard.

But you definitely want to protect your eyes playing any level of hockey - because don't forget, you can get false teeth and still chew, but you can't get a false eye and still see.
