We're rocking in rochester a cloudy skies and colder temps are back.

But will the sun return?

We're finding out if we'll see a weekend warm up.///// today students at byron high school teamed up with the mayo clinic blood donor center for a blood drive.

Kimt news three's maleeha kamal went to the event and found concerns about coronavirus are having little impact on generous donors.

On the scene look live:the turnout here for the blood drive at bryon high school has been good.

Close to 50 people came out today to donate blood.

I spoke to an rn to see if the coronavirus has change the requirements and donation and i was told nothing has changed, about 27 people signed up to donate bloodá but impulse donors came pouring in, boosting the numbers.

It's been a gloomy and gusty day in our area.

We have a wind advisory and you can see just how strong the wind is.

Look at the flags and the trees getting blown around left right and center.

We're joined now by kimt stormteam three chief meteorologist chris nelson.

Chris?///// a cold front is swinging through as we speak which will impact our weather in several ways this thursday.

Starting with the return of clouds overnight, a quick moving band of rain is following this early morning.

Rainfall rates range form light to moderate in this band and may leave things wet for your morning commute.

Luckily, temperatures will be holding above freezing through the morning and daytime hours, keeping most of the surface precipitation as rain.

Slight chances for a wintry mix hold up for the day so some could experience more frozen precipitation as the temperatures change in the upper atmosphere.

Following the passing front, winds form the northwest are expected to increase immensely across the area.

Sustained winds nearing 35 mph are very possible with gusts reaching near 40á50 mph during the day.

A wind advisory will go into effect starting at 9am until 6pm due to the windy conditions.

Drivers take note!

Things will remain breezy into the night before a much calmer friday moves in.

Plan for sunny skies on friday, temps near 40, and winds returning to a light and variable state.

We're still on track for the warmest air of the year this weekend!

A lot of us are looking to reach the 60s on sunday!

Today: slight mix chance, mostly cloudy, windy highs: upper 30s to low 40s winds: wnw 15á 35, gusts near 40á50 mph tonight: mostly cloudy, breezy lows: mid 20s winds: nw 25á35, gusts near 40mph friday: mostly sunny highs: near 40 (( ad lib chat with amy, raquel, and chris )) thanks chris .//// the mower county humane society is feeling grateful today after hormel chili made a generous donation.

The shelter has a dog named chili, so once hormel heard that, they felt even more of a pull to help out.

Chili recently had 6 puppies.

Today, hormel donated lots of food and toys for the cats and dogs at the shelter, one thousand dollars and they're covering the adoption fees for all of chili's puppies.

In addition to all of that, they are also covering all pet adoption fees on national pet adoption day on may 2nd.

Volunteers from the shelter say they appreciate everything hormel continues to do for them, besides just an effort is underway to help animals at (another local humane society as well.

Rumorz bar and grill in clear lake is partnering with the humane society of north iowa to feature adoptable cats and dogs on pizza boxes.

Rumorz owner katie schowalter says the idea came from a new york pizzeria that's doing something similar.

In just a few days á they've seen an overwhelming response á particularly on facebook.xxx "lots of comments, i originally thought it'd be a great place because it's a tourist town during the summertime, people coming from des moines or minneapolis might find a pet they just have to get."

There are no plans to stop this effort any time soon.

Four pets are currently being featured á and new animals will be rotated in as when you think of public radio, you might think of mozart and nápár news.

In rochester, though, there is another public radio option.

And we've been rock from the beginning straight ahead, we pay a visit to rochester's kárápáráááá our own independent radio station playing everything from judas priest and the scorpions to the minnesota department of education releases the minnesota report card with 2019 graduation rates.

Find out how rochester public schools are doing.///// back in the old days, rock radio stations had program directors who decided what music the station would play.

They sampled rock albums and made decisions based on the tastes of their listeners.

Now, though, radio stations with formats from from rock to country to hip hop are all owned by gigantic radio chains including iá heart media and cumulus.

George mallet is here after paying a visit to a rochester radio station that is entirely independent.

Yesááá entirely independentááá and entirely dedicated to classic rock.

You may already know what station i'm talking about.

Krpr.

They are breaking the mold when it comes to rock radioáááá and independent radio.

They are playing the kind of rock i likeáááá simply putááá lots of loud wailing guitars without a bunch of talking.

Let's get back to music.

We're getting this one from 1977 off of their record... rochester's publicly supported rock radio stationááá krpráá áá could be missed if you didn't know it's tucked in a southeast rochester shopping center.

But the fans of album oriented radioá áá know where it is on the dial.

It's been at 89.9 since it was a mere college radio station and remained there when it was purchased by the group of radio afficionados who formed rochester public radio.

We're proud to say that we are the only independent, locally owned radio station left in the city so it's a good thing our group came around and we've been rock from the beginning.

Brian taylor is the program director and morning man on the popular station.

He's proud his crew isn't locked into corporate playlistsáááá and is free to rock.

That's our thing, we go to the local record store.

We did through the vinyl.

We dig through the cd's and we find tracks that maybe weren't the a cut or the b cut on that record, but they were songs that, in the old days, you played the whole record, you familiar with it.

Music natso for a moment.

And if you think the station sounds a little warmer than the digitized corporate inhabitants on the dial... it' because it is.

It's old school.

I mean it's analog equipment that we use to send the signal out to everybody we try to not process it must.

We want our station to sound exactly a public radio stationáááá krpr also offers informational and educational programming.

Case in pointááá kimt provides news updates to krpr.

Back in the old days of analog radioáááá i would have now said something likeá ááá krprááá tune it in and rip the knob off.

To find a radio station playing my kind of rock without a bunch of commercialsááá is a godsend.

Krpr is at 89 point 9 on the radio... providing classic rock n roll day and night.

And the station recently began streaming online so listeners can enjoy their music the world over.

George will post a link to the krpr website when he posts this story at kimt dot com.

There is always a need for blood donations.
