Action News Now Christina Vitale spoke with Thermalito Union Elementary School District officials and how they're stepping up during the coronavirus pandemic.

Action news now reporter christina vitale shows us how the thermalito union elementary school district is stepping up.

Pkg me: yeah its happening right here at the plumas avenue elementary school this is just one of the locations they're handing out food all you gotta do it pull up with your car right, tell them how many meals you need, grab them and go greg blake superintendent: at this point we are at about 20 thousand meals that we've served to the kids in the oroville thermalito area pretty exciting stuff greg blake is the superintendent for the themalito union school district.

Blake: on wednesdays we actually serve breakfast and lunch for wednesday thursday and friday and on monday we serve breakfast and lunch for mondays and tuesdays they're trying to keep the meals simple but healthy.

Williams: cereal for breakfast or muffins and of course fruit and milk and for lunch its grab and go its sandwiches and crackers we try to get as much fresh fruits and vegetables as we can karen williams is the child nutrition food director, she says they purchase food from different vendors and are now starting to order palletsã williams: but we've noticed that it has increased the number of meals have increased over the past couple weeks staff is serving at the three main school locations and also three off-site locations.

Blake: one is for the feather river school district in concow and spring valley school as well as mobile sites serving to local apartment complexes& blake says its no longer necessary to have a student with you during pick-up.

Blake: they can just say i have three children and we will give them enough food to make sure their three children are fed.

Williams: thermalito staff rocks!

Blake: we're making sure they are getting their robust education and all the food they need to keep themselves and family's going.
