I'm kay blevins thanks for joining us.

We will have more on the clean up progress from the tornadoes that swept through our area last weekend in a moment.... but first...we want to tell you about a massive fire at a business on mcfarland avenue this morning.... take a look at this video.... an early morning fire has gutted an empty 50 year old building near downtown rossville.

City spokeswoman elizabeth wells says the two story building has been empty for about 10 years.

Smoke could be seen for miles----as fire units arrived from rossville, catoosa county, fort oglethorpe, walker county and east ridge.

Wells says it was the north furniture retail store..but like the other vacant buildings nearby were part of a planned revitalization program.

Fire destroyed a building behind this one a few weeks ago.

No one was hurt today..and no damage estimate has been made.

Sunday's tornado is causing many families in the tennessee valley to rebuild... the owner of hamilton auto on jenkins road says this is the second time his business has been destroyed by severe weather... news 12 now's danielle moss joins us live with more.

That's right kay, in 1997 12 tornadoes touched down in tennessee.

One of those tornadoes hit chattanooga and destroyed hamilton auto on jenkins road.

Unfortunately, the family on business was hit again on sunday night.

As you can see behind me some of the cars that are on the property have their windows busted out and there's a tree on one of them.

Take vo now the video that you're seeing is footage that we have from that 1997 tornado.

I talked to the owner son and while this morning and he says that they have already started trying to rebuild.

Take sot take live i also talked to the owner this morning and he said that the community has really come together during this time.

He says even though the damage isn't as bad as it was in 1997 he plans to be open in the next couple of weeks.

Live in chattanooga danielle moss news 12 now some good news to pass along to you this afternoon.... epb has now restored power to 51 thousand 5 hundred customers who where impacted by the tornados and severe weather.

8 thousand 5 hundred customers remain without power today.

We have learned the utility expects to return power to thousands of additional customers within the next 24 hours.

A four year old killed in sunday's tornado is being honored as a hero.

Over 150 vehicles drove down east 3rd street for 4-year-old grayson meadows' organ donor honor drive-by.

Family members and friends filled vehicles holding red heart balloons.

Red was his favorite color.

Many first responders were a part of the drive-by.

A nurse practitioner who recently got to know grayson and his family says grayson is a true superhero.

: "one thing that sticks out about grayson is he is a such a superhero.

He always to act like a superhero.

He was super tough.

Mom always talked about how strong he was.

He's donating his life to save other people and that's the ultimate mission.

Mom was so proud talking about like this is exactly what he would've wanted.

A go-fund-me page for grayson has already raised 80 thousand dollars.

That money will go to help pay for his hospital expenses.

Food city is giving back to tornado victims.... the company has already pledged 50 thousand dollars to aid in tornado relief efforts for our community.... wdef news 12 now's taylor bishop joins us now live from food city to tell us how we can all help make a difference.... good afternoon taylor... food city says for the next five days the are working to collect donations from customers to go towards tornado relief efforts.

Food city has pledged a fifty thousand dollar contribution to kick off the drive.

Several vendor partners are also coming along-side to make contributions like coca-cola, pepsi, frito-lay and moon pies.

"over the next five days we're gonna allow our customers to come in and help us out.

We're going to make available for contributions if they want to do that off any amount at the cash registar when they come through" funds raised will be allocated to the salvation army of greater chattanooga to assist with the relief efforts.

The campaign will run from friday, april 17th through tuesday, april 21st in tennessee, virginia and georgia area food city locations.

In chattanooga, taylor bishop news 12 now bradley county suffered severe damage from sunday's tornado.

As you can see her home has been destroyed.

She has been on our show several times before showcasing her delicious treats.

Tina posted a video on facebook wednesday letting everyone known that she's okay and tina's tummy yummy's is still open.

The chattanooga house of prayer is holding a day for prayer and fasting today.

They had been planning this, because of covid-19, but then tornadoes hit.

So, they realized now might be a time when folks need prayer the most.

"there is thousands of people praying for you because todayis a day of prayer and fasting for the metro chattanooga area and on behalf of pastors and ministry leaders all over this city i wanted to invite you to be a part of it...you can do so at chatthop,org."

Des moines runner mark neyens will run 26.2 miles inside his apartment unit sunday morning to raise money for the city's disaster recovery fund.

He has run 20 races and was originally scheduled to run a road race this sunday downtown.

Instead he will run up and down his hallway in his apartment unit - 1, 800 times and livestream the event, all while interacting with people on social media.
