Economists Suspect Millions More Americans Have Filed For Unemployment

The coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns to curb the spread of the disease has had a catastrophic impact on the US economy.

Economists estimate another 4.5 million Americans will have filed for unemployment for week ending April 11.

According to Business Insider, the report will be released Thursday by the Labor Department.

However, the estimate is below the 5.2 million Americans that filed for claims in the previous week.

That signals a downward trend in unemployment claims. The consensus estimate for this week's report would bring total claims filed during the coronavirus pandemic to roughly 26 million.
