Cooperstown is cancelled...tonight we hear from the village and the county on that means moving forward.

Good evening everyone i'm jason powles.

Thank you for joining us.

Its big blow to fans, to businesses, and really to central new york as a whole.

The national baseball hall of fame announced today they have cancelled the 2020 induction weekend as a result of health and safety concerns associated with the covid-19 pandemic.

And now the village of cooperstown and otsego county must get through a normally busy summer without their biggest weekend of the year.

9:00:00 i think it is a smart decision for the village...for the inductees to honor them appropriately...i know many of our main street businesses would endorse the idea of holding it next year and doing it right.

The baseball hall of fame induction weekend brings in fans from all over the country...even the world.

Families make their vacation plans around it...and local businesses count on the revenue from it... year in and year out... .

None .

None sot:9:09:30 its the businesses themselves...are going to struggle, certainly something myself at the tourism office as well as the county administration is trying to figure out relief efforts for people.

Now a community, and county for that matter that looks to those tourism dollars each summer...will do what they can to get through this.

9:12:30 this community...itsefl is heavilty reliant on tourism so its going to be an interesting year.

Sot: 9:00:57 i think many of our businesses are trying different things to survive...this was the only sane national choice and be glad to welcome people next year when its safe.
