Good evening everyone... mississippi is reopening... parks and restaurants will have fewer restrictions starting tomorrow morning.

But state leaders says the covid-19 threat is far from over..

Even at recently opened businesses.

Courtney ann jackson explains.

All the orders, restrictions and guidelines can get confusing at times but governor tate reeves is making it clear that he doesn't want you to let your guard down.

"we are still in the heat of this battle."

So what's the fine line between reopening and folks not tossing those guidelines out the window?

"we are moving towards removing government decision making for individuals.

That does not remove individuals responsibility to act appropriately knowing that there is still a virus in many communities throughout mississippi."

That's putting the ball in your court.

For reeves, he says there are some life lines that need to be extended.

"we've got it open some of the restaurants to give small business owners hope.

We got to find a way to get help to our barbers and salon operators and those who work there.

We've got a find a way to give them hope.

Find a way to get them open and we're working hard every single day to do just that."

The other piece in the domino effect is a mental health impact on fixing the state.

Again a lifeline of sorts is being extended in the form of re- opening parks.

"there are a lot of people struggling right now.

There are a lot of people right now who were trying to figure out do i have hope.

There are a lot of people who need, who might could just simply go to a park and walk around and get some sunshine.

That in and of itself would move them in a much better light."

Reeves adding& "we have to work together to find a way to get me on this to put measures in place that help people now in the short run but also that help people in the long term."

Stinger a starkville teacher is enjoying all kinds of adventures with her students -- while also staying safe at home.

We'll show you when wcbi news returns.

We'll teachers are turning to "unorthodox" learning methods in their virtual classroms. and some are putting a new twist on some classic ideas.

You - or your kids - may remember an illustrated adventurer named flat stanley.

Well, stanley has competition.

Cash matlock introduces us to átinyá mrs. rosamond and átinyá ms. parker it started like all great, modern ideas do... from a post on social media.

Tassie rosamond, a 4th grade teacher at henderson ward stewart, saw a post from a teacher in louisiana about a "reverse" flat stanley while scrolling through her newsfeed-- that's when a new idea formed.

"i took my bitmoji, to be cool with the kids, and my picture, and decided to mail myself to my kids and go on adventures and connect with students that way and the response has been tremendous."

Tiny mrs. rosamond arrives at student's homes with a complete list of instructions.

"i sent them a letter and some instructions and an activity board with activities if they couldn't come up with their own, and to be honest, a lot of my students that have responded have come up with their own activities."

Rosamond says it's been tough to connect with students the past few weeks.

"not having my kids is really hard because... that's what teachers do."

But she isn't the only one adjusting.

Shanika parker is also a 4th grade teacher at henderson ward stewart...and this is her first year on the job.

"i hope that my kids really remember this because it's such a difficult time for everybody.

Kids, adults, teachers, everybody alike, is struggling.

We're all struggling through this because it's just something we've never been through before, so i wanted to bring something positive and happy to them that they can use at home."

During the pandemic, many teachers depend on video calls and emails to reach their students, but the reality is, not all students have equal access.

"that's another thing.

It's something that's accessible to all students.

If i have their address i can send it to them and they can send it back.

They might not have a computer.

They might not be able to get online, but they can send me something in the mail."

"this is a visual way to bring some consistency where they can actually see me and share with me what they've done."

Rosamond says... just because students aren't in the classroom, doesn't mean they can't learn something.

"learning can look very different.

It doesn't have to be sitting at a desk.

It doesn't have to be taking a test.

It can be about experiences and everyday things that they do."

Tag rosamond says the project coincided with the kick-off of teacher appreciation week.
