COVID-19: Entrepreneur turns factory into PPE making workshop to help medical staff

As the coronavirus pandemic hit across globe, the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for doctors and other front line healthcare workers has made news everywhere.

An entrepreneur is providing PPE kits to the medical staff in JandK's Baramulla district.

Mohd.

Muzzafar Baba has transformed his garment factory into a PPE kit making workshop.

He manufactures ready-made garments especially school uniforms for students.

The entrepreneur hails from Sopore town of Baramulla.

Currently, four employees are working in the factory in order to maintain the norm of social distancing.

While speaking to ANI, Mohammad Muzzafar Baba said, "There was very less quantity of protective gears available in various hospitals along with other supplies.

I thought to put my efforts in providing materials and started making kits." There are total 971 confirmed cases of coronavirus in JandK.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 49,219 with 2549 deaths in India.

Construction of underground bunkers began at villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district in view of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Javed Ahmad, Junior Engineer said, "Total 18 bunkers to be constructed here, work underway for six bunkers is underway." The bunker will be equipped with all the facilities which will allow people to take shelter in the bunkers for days. 18 community bunkers will be constructed in Boniyar and Uri areas out of which construction work on six is being underway and will be finished shortly. Each bunker will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh. Each community bunker will consist of two rooms besides a washroom. Local residents of border areas of Uri were heaving a sigh of relief as their long pending demand is being finally met. Ceasefire violation by Pakistan has been increased in recent days and several civilians lost their lives due to these unprovoked ceasefire violation.

Testing of COVID-19 has increased in India. As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a record high of 8,48,728 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. This has taken the cumulative tests to 2,76,94,416. 12,608 new COVID-19 cases, and 364 deaths reported in Maharashtra. Delhi reported 1,192 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths. Tamil Nadu reported 5,890 new COVID-19 cases and 117 deaths taking total number of cases to 3,26,245.

The cases of coronavirus continued to surge in India, however, fatality rate dipped to 1.99 %, informed Health Ministry. Delhi reported 1257 COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths on Aug 11. Karnataka recorded 6,257 COVID-19 cases today. While, Tamil Nadu reported 5,834 COVID-19 cases and 118 deaths so, total number of cases in the state is now at 3,08,649, including 2,50,680 discharged, 52,810 active cases and 5,159 deaths. Andhra Pradesh recorded 9024 cases. Country has conducted over 2.5 crore sample tests so far.
