Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation at the 74th Independence Day on August 15 informed that country has three potential vaccines in testing stages. With several reforms are underway after Jammu and Kashmir received the Union Territory status, Government has taken another initiative in developing a 5.25 km road from NH-1A 46th Delina to Singhpora in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. This developmental process of road construction is being executed under Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) at the cost of rupees 443.65 lacs . The Union Territory administration has taken this step under Pradhan Mantri Gram SadakYojna (PMGSY) scheme, benefitting the people living in rural area in commuting. Construction of underground bunkers began at villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district in view of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Javed Ahmad, Junior Engineer said, "Total 18 bunkers to be constructed here, work underway for six bunkers is underway." The bunker will be equipped with all the facilities which will allow people to take shelter in the bunkers for days. 18 community bunkers will be constructed in Boniyar and Uri areas out of which construction work on six is being underway and will be finished shortly. Each bunker will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh. Each community bunker will consist of two rooms besides a washroom. Local residents of border areas of Uri were heaving a sigh of relief as their long pending demand is being finally met. Arms and ammunition which have been seized from them shows that they were planning a big attack. Further investigation is underway".
Testing of COVID-19 has increased in India. As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a record high of 8,48,728 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. This has taken the cumulative tests to 2,76,94,416. 12,608 new COVID-19 cases, and 364 deaths reported in Maharashtra. Delhi reported 1,192 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths. Tamil Nadu reported 5,890 new COVID-19 cases and 117 deaths taking total number of cases to 3,26,245.
The cases of coronavirus continued to surge in India, however, fatality rate dipped to 1.99 %, informed Health Ministry. National Expert Group on vaccine administration has also been constituted by Centre. Maharashtra continues to witness surge of over 10,000 COVID-19 cases taking total tally in the state to 5,35,601. Delhi reported 1257 COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths on Aug 11. Karnataka recorded 6,257 COVID-19 cases today. While, Tamil Nadu reported 5,834 COVID-19 cases and 118 deaths so, total number of cases in the state is now at 3,08,649, including 2,50,680 discharged, 52,810 active cases and 5,159 deaths. Andhra Pradesh recorded 9024 cases. Country has conducted over 2.5 crore sample tests so far.
Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a press conference on August 11 announced that National Expert Group has been constituted for vaccine administration. He said, "Government has constituted National Expert Group for vaccine administration which will meet tomorrow. Their terms of reference constitute all matters related to logistics of vaccines, ways to address issues of equity etc. This expert group will continue its engagement with all state governments and vaccine manufacturers in India."
