A monument to Spain's coronavirus victims has opened in the centre of Madrid.

The small black cauldron from the centre of which burns an "eternal" flame stands outside the Palacio de Cibeles on Calle Alcalá.

An inscription reads in Spanish: "Your flame will never go out in our hearts." As of May 17th at 7:55 am GMT, Spain had registered 27,563 deaths, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
