Reopening plans for Vernon Downs

The Governor's office announced that horse racing can begin without spectators on June 1st.

The Governor's office plans on sending detailed regulations to places like Vernon Downs within the next week.

This is a way for businesses to make money without putting people at risk.

Newshcannel 2's brent kearney spoke with officials at vernon downs about their reopening plan, and how this effects them.

The property at vernon downs could soon be coming back to life.

The state announcing horse racing without fans is now permitted.

Jeffery gural chairman of american racing says he's been talking to the governor cuomo's office.

Because people come their to work everyday to jog, train and feed the horses.

So all we are letting them do is race the horses."

The activity may be increasing on the track, but the stands will remain empty.

Something gural says wont be a big change as bets will be now souley online.

"90% of the wagering is done online.

So we have never relied on that much on back on the old days when vernon was packed there was no online bedding so if you wanted to bet on vernon downs races you had a bet at the race track."

Gural stating they are targeting july first to have all of the amenities reopened.

Gural says casinos will be reopened under social distancing guidelines.

Phase for as far as the casino goes we have a plan in place to open the casino.

Sif we uthat ts wrong every two weeks we would be looking at july 1 to be able to open up the casinos.

We would probably operate with every other slot machine."

As unemployment numbers continue to rise, gural says the country needs to get back to work.

"if you listen to health people they think its going to be a disaster opening up.

But you have to open back up, you cant bankrupt the country, you just cant.
