The Pac-12 Championships would have been this weekend.

Its at 22:46 that was university of oregon athletic director rob mullens-- talking about hayward field... which was supposed to be hosting the 20-20 pac-12 track and field championships before the coronavirus led to a change of plans.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy is live at hayward field to tell us how the delayed grand reopening is impacting the community.

Jillian-- even though this weekend was supposed to hayward field's big grand opening-- the 200 million dollar project is still underway-- we saw some workers at the stadium today working on the sound system.

After two years of waiting for the stadium's reveal, fans from all over would have filled stadium seats to watch athletes compete in the pac-12 championship this weekend... but that ended up being cancelled.

The new stadium is set to contain twelve thousand and five hundred seats with up to thirty thousand temporary seating.

One resident who has lived in eugene since 2008 said she's been eagerly waiting for the season to begin.

"i have seats, reserved seats for the track and field season eventually and for the olympic trials but they are certainly worth waiting for but its fun to go by and see it being built every day and you see the seats are there now."

She says that while she was disappointed about the changes, she is looking forward to when the day comes...for fans near and far to gather and experience the excitement of tracktown.

It is still unclear as to when hayward field will open back up.

As for the u.s olympic trials-- they've been delayed to june of next year.
