It suggests that climate change could be linked to why the intensity of storms has increased.

Lead author James Kossin, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientist, says more information is needed.

Over this time period, maximum sustained winds within storms were shown to have increased in strength.

Results also show it is becoming increasingly likely that tropical storms transform into major hurricanes.
