Thanks for staying up with us tonight..

The centers for disease control releases recommended guidelines for k through 12 schools to follow once they re-open for the school year.

And that has area districts really doing their homework..

Our stephanie poole explains.

It's been 3 months since students walked the halls in noxubee county schools...when it's time to return this fall, there will be some new rules.

"it's a-lot of logistics to this and we're in the middle of keeping everybody safe and making sure our process works."

Noxubee county school superintendent rodriguez broadnax says his team is exploring new ways to keep students protected.

" i'm developing the r3i task force which is our new initiative.

Those are some guidelines that go along with the cdc guidelines.

It's to reset, refresh, and refocus our district in a totally new normal throughout this pandemic.

Our elementary school framework would be, what does parent pickup look like, what will lunch look like, what will the cafeteria look like, how will be able to tell is students have symptoms of covid- 19."

Among the guidelines, the cdc recommends keeping desks six feet apart.

It also suggests keeping children with the same teacher or staff member for the duration of the day.

" we're thinking of an a day b day schedule possibly for the elementary school students based on what grade level they're at.

If they're below grade level they come monday, wednesday , friday.

Those students that are at grade level or above grade level come tuesday thursday."

The new recommendations also affect the trip to and from school.

They call for only one child per seat on school buses, and leaving empty rows between riders.

Broadnax is concerned more bus drivers will be needed to run routes and ensure a sick child doesn't get on the bus.

" what measures are we going to take to check temperatures before they get on the school bus,and to turn those kids around?

Right now we are disinfecting every school, every office, every classroom every single day that teachers are in.

Broadnax says the task force plan will be finalized around the beginning of the school year in hopes to accommodate each student.

Reporting in noxubee county, stephanie poole, wcbi news.

You can find the full list of school re-opening guidelines on the cdc's website.

Count mississippi's coastal casinos among the businesses welcoming customers back.... just in time for memorial day..

As you can see here.... there was a line at the golden nugget when doors opened at 8 a-m.

But things have changed inside..

Golden nugget employees are required to wear masks... and machines have been spaced out.

There are also signs to remind guests to follow new guidelines.

Employees are excited to see customers again.

"well we are tired for one, because the order came down last friday, we kind of knew something was coming so we got started a little but we've been in high gear since last friday morning and we are tried but we are ready after two months.

" most casinos on the coast did reopen today.

One notable exception is the beau rivage.

Governor tate reeves is discussing the state's next phase of rebuilding the economy... and it involves getting people back to work... but with better pay.

Courtney ann jackson explains.

More workforce training was on governor tate reeves' priority list for the federal cares act money early on.

And now--he'll ask lawmakers to put it on theirs.

"the reality is we should not be looking at plans simply to spend the cares act funds.

We must develop plans to invest the cares act funds."

Reeves says many companies do on- the-job training tailored to their needs.

"for those employers willing to start employees at an attractive wage, frankly a wage that competes with these new federal unemployment benefits&.i am proposing to partner with these companies cover a portion of the wages during the on the job training period through the end of 2020."

As part of the way to achieve those goals, he's appointing patrick sullivan as chairman of the state workforce investment board.

Sullivan was most recently the president of the mississippi energy institute.

"prior to the coronavirus, the state of the economy was there was a number of employers out there looking for high skilled workers.

There just wasn't enough of them.

The supply of what we were producing in mississippi, in a lot of cases just didn't meet the demand."

Sullivan gave a rundown of some of the high demand jobs that also come high paychecks.

"3-d printing.

Robotics programming, automation and controls, industrial maintenance technicians, precision manufacturing, getting down into the information technology& coding, cyber security, network specialists."

Sullivan says this is a year's long endeavor but he looks forward to better informing mississippians about the opportunities that are available."

Caj wcbi news the legislature is set to return next week.... and of course.... we'll keep you updated if any additional plans related to workforce development are discussed.

Hot dogs are really one of my favorite foods.

I wanted to capture what alaska has to offer in terms of a hotdog but when i think about it it's all about seafood.

Born in alaska raised in memphis.

We know reindeer is actually caribou.

Deer sausage.

I grilled it today and if i'm going to do caribou or deer sausage... we got sort of sweeter dog and i wanted to go with a wine that's going to go with something sweet.

Buck shack cabernet sauvignon thanks for joining us for uncorked....cheers.
