Business owners here inside the furniture markets are excited to sell children's goods to the community in the annual children's consignment sale.

But they have to balance that with keeping the customers safe.

"we're following all federal, state, and local guidelines."

Michelle cox is the host for the seasonal children's consignment sale.

Originally set for march the coronavirus forced cox to reschedule the 14 year sale.

But now the weekend event is open for business with extra safety precautions in place... "we also have a cleaning service here perpetually cleaning.

She is doing an hour rotation.

Cleaning the bathrooms, come to the front, cleaning the doors, and highly touched surfaces."

And cox says they are also encouraging the public to social distance by putting stickers on the ground... "in the city of tupelo masks aren't mandatory or required but we're highly encouraging that."

Cox is not only selling goods for the little ones but also face masks, face shields, and other protective gear... "the girl at the door said she just sold six face shields at the door because the woman came in and said she can't find them anywhere."

((stand up)) as you soon as you walk through the front door there are also hand sanitizer stations for you to use while you shop.

Cox says she's happy she is able to have this event safely... "i had everything in place for march and then you have to undo everything and then redo everything and when we made the decision to go forward, we literally pulled it all together in a week and a half two weeks."

This is one of many events expected to take place here at the furniture market and cox says she's confident this venue will continue to be a safe one for shoppers... reporting live in tupelo erin wilson wtva 9 news although parks and fields
