People around thecound paused today to take in the first of a number of memorial services for george floyd, the man who died in police custody 10 days ago and has led to outrage and a call for change...worldwide.

News channel two's gary liberatore caught up with two men from utica...a council member and....utica's police chief...as they watched the service live on tv.

Gary, good evening.

Good evening.

Today two perspectives.

Watching the service as a black man in america...and watching the service as a police chief.

And both perspectives are similar in one big way...they are both feeling positive change is ahead across this country.

(nat of al sharpton) this service thursday afternoon resonated around the world.

Including in many homes...and offices here in utica new york.

(delvin moody, (d) 5th ward utica common council) .

None tc : 40:35 "i think this moment nationally brings all of those who were protesting, who were standing in solidarity in many places across the country, across our state, different cities, this moment brings them all together almost like a unified virtual protest."

(chief mark williams, utica police dept.) tc : 43:19 "its another reminder of the outrage and disappointment in the death of george floyd and its also a reminder of the challenges of what we had ahead of us in law- enforcement how we go forward."

Utica common council member delvin moody is irate at the treatment at teh hands of police officers...8 minutes and 46 seconds with a knee to his neck with three other officers around watching...but he says today..is about remembering the man... tc : 39:38 "but this is a humanbeingr a shtag but that is a rson, it is loved one, iis somed all of the prost i think thats what was missed that this was a human being, theres a family, its not just a political issue."

Utica police chief mark williams says he stands with everyone who is outraged at this video.

He says would have been at sunday's march and protest in utica...walking alongside his deputy chief and another officer....but he had a death in the family.

Both men believe there will be change...in the name of george floyd.... tc : 41:14 "feels different in so many ways because you have that solidarity with police officers, you have that solidarity with white and black and so many others so its an important moment and im optimistic that we will beabe changes t c: 45:59 "i was encouraged to see the speakerstt resonates with everybody."> george floyd was 46 years old.
