Kind shop owner gives free bike to struggling pensioner in the Philippines

This is the heartwarming moment an old man from the Philippines was gifted a bike after the shop owner found out that he walks several miles every day from his home to the market to sell candies.

Carlos Samonte, 83, used to trudge from his home in Makati City to Pasay City, which is 2.5 miles away, so he can sell sweets during the coronavirus quarantine.

Due to the pandemic, buses and other public vehicles have not been allowed to travel to prevent the spread of the virus so the old man was forced to walk everyday.

On the way to his selling spot, he asked about the price of a bike.

Shop assistant Jhudel said that the old man had been asking for the bike's price since May 15 until he chanced upon the owner, Fe Carandang, on June 3.

He said: "He's been asking if we can give the bike at a lower price because he does not have enough money.

He kept asking every day if we were putting it on sale.

We could not give the discount, because we are only employees.'' Footage shows the interaction between the old man and the shop owner, who kindly handed over the bike for free.

In the video, the touched senior was trying to pay the bike with his savings of 2,000 pesos (32GBP), but the shop owner insisted to give it as a gift.

He said: "I record the video because it was such a sweet moment for us.

We have a kind boss who understands the needs of other people."
