Having clean having clean drinking water is a priority for all of us.

That's why one vermillion county leaders are providing people with the tools to test it themselves.

At 5 we told you county leaders will soon offer people an at home water testing kit.

News 10's richard solomon has more on when you can get one and just how easy it is.

These water testing kits will be available july 1st.

It's an easy test that you can do at home to make sure your water is healthy and safe.

County leaders i spoke with say this is just another important home maintance tip.

You can pick up a kit at the soil and water consrvation district office or in the vermillion county public library.

Town leaders say it's vital you check your water.

It could prevent your family from consuming dangerous bacterias..metals...or nitrate.

Each sample container is labeled.

You fill each one..

Then they're sent back to county leaders...who then send it to a lab for testing.

Vermillion county commissioner tim yocum has worked with water systems for the last 25 years.

He says if your water results do come back with contamination...they can work to get rid of it.

"it's a health issue and anything we can do to help our conuty and make it a better place to live and safer place, i think it's a great thing if we can reach those people in the county and like i said maybe we'll find some of those who've not even been tested" it usually takes up to a few days or weeks to get results back.

Yocum says ideally people should get this done once a year.
