Community Harvest Food Bank will soon be needing extra volunteers to fill the void of the National Guard leaving July 31.

Many people have gone back to work with the state's reopening..however, fort wayne food banks remain busy.fox 55's jeremy masukevich shows us what local food distributors are doing to keep up with the increased need.

Nat carmenthe numbers havent stopped.

They have dropped a little but we are seeing this influx.

Carmen cumberland with community harvest food bank says both monetary and food donations have kept their food distributions at an all-time highlower third: carmen cumberland, community harvest executive president sot carmen before covid it was about 21,100 and our distributions have about doubled so we are probably looking at about 40,000 people that we are feeding.cumberland says they'll need more volunteers when the national guard leaves over the next couple of weeks sot carmen july 31 we are going to be losing the guard and so we are looking for volunteers in each of the 9 counties to help with our mobile pantries.kate wiggins with aging and in-home services says she doesn't expect demand to decrease even after the state fully reopens sot kate we started that during mid april and since then we have served over 30,000 meals and were forecasted now to continue that service through august.we have seen a very large demand.

We see a lot of repeat customers but almost every week we see about 150 new people as well.both wiggins and cumberland say its a chain of generosity that allows the food to get to the people who need it mostprompting companies like unilever to step in to feed the volunteers helping feed the fort wayne community.lower third: brian kuehl, unilever food solutions sot brian we are feeding the workers, the national guard, volunteers, everybody to help give back to all of those people keeping america fed during this difficult time.
