Starkville Parks and Recreation workers plan to keep everyone safe during the annual Fourth of July event.

The fireworks show is an event that attracted hundreds if not thousands of people last year.

But this year will look a lot different in hopes that everyone stays healthy.

"unfortunately with covid 19 it will not be as big of an event as it was in the past."

David d'aquilla- interim director, parks and recreation 0:00-0:08;03 david d'aquilla..the interim director for starkville parks and recreation said this years fourth of july event will only be a fireworks show.

That means no vendors..no bouncy houses and no restrooms available.

"what we're asking people to do is come to the show enjoy the fireworks and when the fireworks end to depart."

But thats not the only thing workers are asking people to do differently this year..

D'aquilla said attendees must social distance.

Whether its inside your car, in a lawn chair or in the back of your pick up truck.

To enforce social distancing at the event, d'aquilla said parks and rec workers and police officers will be on stanby.

"we do want to be cognizant particularly with the increase in mississippi and the governors message from yesterday.
