Blackout Day is a call for African Americans to spend money at African American businesses.

Impacted.

The call for action on black out tuesday is asking the black community to spend no money at all, or to spend only at black-owned businesses.

News 12's taylor bishop has the details.

"there are so many black businesses here locally whether it's nails, hair, food, people who make clothes.

It's just so many different brilliant black minds and creatives here in the city that really could use your patronage" african americans spent more than one trillion dollars on consumer goods in 2018 alone, according to a nielsen report.

"bringing in that dollar in to the correct market, to make people know their are some black businesses out here that are doing some amazing things, that offer a great product and a great service to our communities."

Here in chattanooga there are several black owned businesses that you can support.

"i love to cook.

I'm passionate about cooking, really not even the food but it's really the service that's really going to set me apart from other catering businesses and other businesses in whole."

People across the country have planned a number of economic protests since may, after george floyd died at the hands of minneapolis police.

"this is a modern day way of doing it with the help of social media; is that we want to encourage our people as often as possible to keep their dollars in their community."
