I'll have that answer good evening.

We're glad you're here tonight.

I'm veronica jean seltzer.

And i'm tom kenny.

We begin with a developing story in lexington.

A former police chaplain accused of hitting a restrained teenager with autism during an arrest at fayette mall..

Is retiring.

Full mug:former police chaplain retiring lexington police department / source: lexington herald leader ofc.

... the official announcement is scheduled to come tomorrow.

According to the lexington herald leader...the lexington police and fire pension board today approved the retirement of former police chaplain, donovan stewart.

The police department just announced monday that the position of chaplain was being eliminated and stewart was reassigned to patrol officer...adding that the move had nothing to do with the mall incident.

The move was criticized by protesters who have been calling for stewart to be fired during recent demonstrations downtown.

As we have reported..

Stewart is accused of hitting a teenager after the teen was restrained at fayette mall in february 2019.

Investigators say the teenager was with his friends and the group was reportedly being disorderly.

Cell phone video of the inicident went viral after it was shared on facebook according to the herald leader...a federal lawsuit was filed against stewart earlier this year..

Accordinig to the herald leader...the retirement of six other officers was also approved earlier this summer and the lexington fraternal order of police president says he fears more officers will retire in august, because of recent protests after the police- involved killings of george floyd in minnesota and breonna taylor in louisville.

According to the paper..

The f-o-p persident says lexington police have been demonized for actions of police
