Utica police are advising against running on what would have been Boilermaker Sunday, since there are no precautions in place.

Runners are encouraged to participate in the virtual event in September.

It wasn't for the corona-virus.

But there are some who have been mentioning they still want to run the course on sunday anyway...without all of the precautions in place.

Tonight, utica police are sending out a warning for anyone thinking of doing just that.

Utica police are (((strongly advising against((( running the boilermaker coson sunday without the proper precautions in place.

Michael curley is urging those who still want to be a part of the event, to take part in the boilermaker's planned virtual event.

That's where individuals can run a course from september 1st through september 13th and report their times to the boilermaker.

This course can be on a treadmill, or any outside arena they choose.

Curley says if you choose to run the actual boilermaker course this weekend, you need to understood that there will be no provisions for safety, medical aid, or other race necessities.

No roads will be blocked, no water or refreshments will be provided, and there will be no medical transport immediately available if an emergency occurs.

He says since the course is not going to be as secure as in previous years, the department cannot sanction anyone to run in the roadway, and in fact advises against it.

This run will be at your own risk.

Curley says: 0:3:56;22 certainly if people running the streets in the numbers that are being reported we are going to have a significant problem, again none of the road ways are being blocked, there will be no traffic control, we're certainly advising people and encouraging them to utilize the sidewlkas, utilize the grassy areas in the first mile or so where there are no sidewalks.

It's very very dangerous to be running in the road, traffic is going to be coming at all angles and we just don't want anyone to get hurt."

He also says, with the heat, make sure you're staying hydrated.
