As the probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput intensifies, Union Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has now called for a fair probe into the case. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Editor-in-Chief Shashi Shekhar, Prasad said that the actor's loss is a loss for the nation and not just the state of Bihar. The minister said that he was extremely saddened by the incident and the politics that followed his death. He also narrated an incident when he met the actor at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sushant SIngh Rajput died of suicide on June 14, 2020. The case has now been handed over to the CBI after an open tug-of-war between the Maharashtra police and the Bihar police. Sushant's father has named the deceased actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty in the FIR filed in Patna and accused her of abetment to suicide. He also alleged that there were some fraudulent financial transactions, following which the Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering acase. The cases of coronavirus continued to surge in India, however, fatality rate dipped to 1.99 %, informed Health Ministry. National Expert Group on vaccine administration has also been constituted by Centre. Maharashtra continues to witness surge of over 10,000 COVID-19 cases taking total tally in the state to 5,35,601. Delhi reported 1257 COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths on Aug 11. Karnataka recorded 6,257 COVID-19 cases today. While, Tamil Nadu reported 5,834 COVID-19 cases and 118 deaths so, total number of cases in the state is now at 3,08,649, including 2,50,680 discharged, 52,810 active cases and 5,159 deaths. Andhra Pradesh recorded 9024 cases. Country has conducted over 2.5 crore sample tests so far.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video conference with Chief Ministers of ten states to discuss the Covid situation. PM Modi said that everyone is working as a team to beat the Covid pandemic. PM Modi added that the rate of testing has increased drastically and now stands at about 7 lakh. He added that the fatality rate has also come down in a major way and said that the aim now should be to bring the fatality rate to below 1%. PM Modi also asked states to adhere to the 72 hour formula, where if anyone is diagnosed, then all his contacts should be traced and isolated within 72 hours. Last rites of Captain DV Sathe were performed in Mumbai on August 11. Maharashtra government accorded state funeral to late Wing Commander (Retd) Sathe. Earlier, his mortal remains were brought to his residence. Captain Sathe was flying the Air India Express flight which crash-landed at Kozhikode airport on August 7. Flight crash claimed 18 lives.
Hyderabad police personnel reported back to duty after recovering from coronavirus. At least 216 police personnel have come back on duty. They have received guard of honor. Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar also came to encourage the officials.

Incessant rain in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri region increased the water flow of Hogenakkal falls. The flow of water was so intense that it entered into villages near the Hogenakkal falls. In Hogenakkal the river Cauvery enters into Tamil Nadu as a big river with gushing water presentably as a natural falls but due to heavy rain the water level of the river breached its banks and flooded the houses in low-laying areas. Hogenakal is situated at the borders of Karnataka at 46 kms from Dharmapuri.
Violence broke out in Bengaluru on August 11 late night over an alleged inciting social media post. 146 people have been arrested in the matter so far. Karnataka Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai said, "It has been decided that a district magistrate will hold an inquiry into the incident. So far, 146 people have been arrested."
At least five people, including two children, were charred to death and many others sustained burns when a Bengaluru bound bus they were traveling in caught fire on a national highway in Chitradurga district on Wednesday morning. "Five people have died after a bus caught fire on National Highway 4 at about 3.30 am. The bus was on the way from Bijapur to Bengaluru," a police officer said. The deceased have not been identified, he said adding a few others have been hospitalized.

Gymnast Dipa Karmakar resumed training after more than five months. Karmakar was on a break due to the raging Covid-19 pandemic. The athlete was back in gym to enhance her gymnastic skills. Karmakar was seen flexing muscles to get back in action. "I am feeling glad that after over five months I came to the gym. All the gyms were shut due to coronavirus pandemic in March. I thank Tripura Sports Council for giving me training opportunity. We were undergoing online fitness training all this while," Gymnast Dipa Karmakar said. The gymnast resumed training under supervision of her coach BS Nandi. "I started giving online classes during the lockdown. As of now, the aim is to get these players back in their form," Dipa Karmakar's coach, BS Nandi said. The Coronavirus pandemic took a toll on sports activities across the world. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was also postponed until next year. The event has been scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Delhi police stepped up security in and around the capital ahead of the Independence day celebration on August 15. Police were seen checking vehicles in the India gate and Connaught place region.
