More on last week's executions, how lethal injections work

We're learning more about the process behind last week's federal executions in Terre Haute.

News 10 spoke with a local pathologist as controversy continues about protocols for lethal injections

20-41.

A new "lethal injection protocol" was used to execute three men.

That's at the federal prison... in terre haute... last week.

News 10's jordan kudisch spoke with a local pathologist to see how the process works... she's in our newsroom to walk us through the process.

Alia--- the federal government used a three-drug cocktail in prior executions.

Last week, it used a new protocol using pento barbitol.

You may remember..

The government executed "daniel lewis lee"..

"wesley ira purkey"..

And "dustin lee honken" using this process.

Local pathologist "dr. kohr" is very familiar with both processes.

Despite the fact that he did "not" have any "direct relation" with these most recent executions..

He expained to me "exactly" how the new protocol "impacts" the body "minutes" before death "loss of consciousness, deep sleep, "loss of consciousness, deep sleep, sensatinal breathing.

When breathing stops, oxygen stops getting delivered to your brain, and without a couple of minutes of oxygen your brain shuts down irreversbly and death occurs."

Kohr says right now this method is what sticks..

But others like helium..

Are being tested out.
