On monday governor eric holcomb's mask mandate takes affect in the state of indiana requiring hoosiers to mask up in public places.

Among those exempt are any person engaging in sports activity who can maintain six feet of social distancing from other people not in the same household.

However, some high schools in our area have already put a mask mandate in place.

Here in the river city, reitz head football coach cory brunson told 44 sports that many of his players have already started covering their faces.

Right now with them putting that in there, i think we've been fortunate where i feel that the things that we've already been doing already meet those requirements.

Our kids show up to practice with a mask, when they leave, they leave with a mask on.

I feel like at least on our end we've already been doing those things so i feel we're already prepared and ready for that.

August 3rd is reitz's first scheduled practice with helmets and the team will add pads throughout the week.

Currently no mask requirement is in place for players during practice and the team is prepared to change that should it become necessary.

We're also looking into, some schools have already been buying them, where they have a face shield, you have one covering their eyes, but now, they've got other parts for the helmet so that stuff's out there that we may look into if it happens to go another step further.

Reitz's first contest of the 2020 season will kick off on august 21st against harrison, and the panthers are also prepared to mask up for games as well.

If it becomes to where they need to wear it, we're fortunate that we had some people step up and get masks for all the players.

Another thing we're willing to do is get the shields for the helmets that covers up everything as much as you can but football is a contact sport.

You're not going to be able to prevent everything but, the more we can prevent the better and safer we'll be.
