Fauci: States' 'Diversity Of Response' Key To Why US Can't Get COVID-19 Under Control

America's top infectious disease doctor says the 'diversity of response' among US states has kept the nation from controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

According to CNN, Dr. Anthony Fauci said in a congressional hearing Friday it's impossible to predict how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last.

The US is seeing a resurgence of coronavirus infections after states began reopening their economies.

Data from Johns Hopkins University counts the number of cases now at more than 4.4 million and the death toll at 152,070.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation increased its forecast to 219,864 total deaths by November.

The increase is due, in part, to the nation's ongoing debates over whether to observe measures like wearing masks and social distancing.
