A program is underway in Vigo County to help at-risk youth.

Days a week.

A program will soon make its way to the wabash valley that's dedicated to helping at-risk youth.

The "hamilton center" received 18-thousand dollars from the united way..

To make it possible.

It will work closely with the kids in the juvenille detention center.

As news 10's jordan kudisch explains..

It could help shape them for a better future.

Jon..

Alia..

Here's the best part of the program..

Yes..

It helps kinds in the juvienelle center..

But it goes beyond the cell walls.

It also helps kids once they get back into society..

By working with the local schools to keep them on track.

As you know..

The county has a "very" high drug abuse rate..

However-- the program aims to lower drop-out rates..

Drug-abuse..

And behavioral issues..

To give these kids a fighting chance at a future.

One mentor for the progray says he feels lucky to be apart of something like this.

"i have a long story so for me to be able to go into the juvinelle center, to go into the school corporation and be able to give back and help those young people it means a lot to me, it meqans the world to me to be able to have the opportunity to do it for the community."

In asked those involved about an official start date-- they said there is not one right now.
