Weather Experts Label 2020 Hurricane Season ‘Extremely Active’ The research team at Colorado State University (CSU) is predicting 24 named storms before the end of the year.

12 total hurricanes and five major hurricanes are currently expected, which is double that of a normal season.

Only 21 hurricane names are allotted per year, with 2005 being the only year on record to experience an overflow with 28 named storms. CSU is also forecasting that the U.S. coast will be hit by a Category 3 hurricane or greater at some point in 2020.

The current hurricane season is already on record pace after Hurricane Isaias made landfall two weeks ahead of schedule.
