New York Gun Sales Spiked in June, Study Says The ‘New York Post’ reports that New Yorkers bought more guns this past June than any other June in the past decade.

The FBI reportedly ran over 52,000 background checks for firearm purchases, a 121 percent increase from 2019.

Of those background checks, 31,003 were for people trying to purchase a rifle.

11,585 background checks were for handgun purchases.

June also accounted for a rise in New York gun violence, with gunshot injuries experiencing a 238 percent increase.

According to the NYPD, there were a total of 205 shootings in June 2020, making it the bloodiest June since 1996.

Nationwide, researchers of the University of California Davis have found a link between increased gun sales and gun-related injuries.

They estimate that an extra 2.1 million guns sold between March and May account for 776 gun-related injuries that would have otherwise not occurred.
