Vigo County Parks Department set to unveil new kayak launch

The Vigo County Parks Department will unveil another new kayak launch in a few weeks.

The country.

You may be looking for an escape from everything right now.

Some are finding that in the great outdoors!

News 10 spoke with the assistant superintendent of the vigo county parks department today.

He says the pandemic is driving many people to places like fowler park.

That's where you can unplug and reconnect with nature in one of the many campsites.

The campgrounds at fowler opened later than normal this year... but... when it did open... every site was soon claimed.

"we've had a lot more people here than any other time in the past that i can remember."

//////// the park's department is considering what to do with its annual "pioneer days".

The fall re-enactment is the longest running event in the department's history.

20 cabins from the early 18-hundreds will be open to the public.

Volunteers demonstrate pioneer skills and re-enact history.

But covid concerns mean this year's event "could" get cancelled.

News 10 was told today...the parks department will make a final decision on monday, august 24th.

In the meantime...you can enjoy "saturday in the village" this saturday, august 15th.

Cabin care takers will be in their cabins.

And you can tour the area.

Masks and social distancing are required.

And....the parks department will unveil another new kayak launch in a few weeks!

Now...coming up labor day weekend...the parks department will open a kayak launch at "fowler park".

The public will get the chance to try out the new launch and get a tour around the lake at fowler.
