In a major success for security forces, 2 terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-E-Toiba were gunned down in Handwara.

A substantial amount of arms and ammunitions, including 2 AK-47s were also seized after the encounter.

The two slain terrorists have been identified as lashkar commander Naseer-u-din Lone and Pakistani terrorist Danish.

Naseer was reportedly involved in the killing of three CRPF jawans at Sopore on April 18 and another three CRPF jawans at Handwara on May 4 this year.

An AK-47 rifle, which was snatched from a CRPF jawan after the attack on May 4, was recovered from him.

The encounter at Ganipora Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district started after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Jammu and Kashmir police chief said that the killing of Danish was also a big success for the security forces.

The encounter was the second such operation on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, security forces killed two militants in Shopian district in south Kashmir.
