The winter season has been pushed back to November 30 to give fall sports more time to complete year.

More practices are now required for student-athlete to be eligible to play in games.

In that meeting - decisions were made regarding changes for sports seasons this academic year.

Association officers voted to move the start of the winter season back a couple of weeks to november 30th in order to give fall sports time to complete its delayed seasons.

The previous start date for winter sports was november 16.

The officers also waived the seven consecutive day rule beginning on october 12 - and increased the required number of practices for game eligibility to 12 practices for football and 10 for all other fall sports.

While football and other high risk sports can practice - but not play - the association is still planning on keeping them as fall sports this academic year.

Individual sections do have the right to move those sports to spring for their own member schools.

Association executive director doctor robert zayas spoke with media tonight to discuss the latest decisions.

But keep in mind that it is a decision of the section and of school districts if they wish to host fall sports this fall.

As of now - section three locally has not given any indications it will not hold low-risk sports competition this fall.

Section eight in nassau county, long island has postponed all sports until at least january.

The state athletic association is developing its own guidance document to assist the return of schools sports for districts.

That is expected to be released by friday.
