Rare 'snake cloud' hovers close to volcano in Indonesia

Superstitious locals worshipped a strange mass of winding clouds resembling a snake hovering close to a volcano.

The amazing 'snake cloud' was seen over the mountains in Wonosobo, Central Java, Indonesia on Friday (September 4).

The dense mass of white cloud appeared to form an elongated wave which looked like the body of a snake.

Dyaz Erlangga, resident of Maron Village, said the rare cloud formation added to the beauty of Mount Sindoro which stands a couple of miles from his home.

He said: "We were so happy when we saw the cloud.

It is like a gift from God saying that there are going to be great days ahead." Superstitious villagers went to pray after seeing the magnificent cloud in the sky.

The orange sunrise also added to the beauty of the unusual cloud formation that was seen for the first time in the area.

Dyaz added: "I also prayed for good future.

I think that the cloud is a sign of good luck." Meanwhile, Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency head Yoga Sambodo said that the clouds are a natural phenomenon.

He said: "The clouds are truly beautiful, but they are only roll clouds.

They are nothing but roll clouds, although it is also good that its beauty gives people hope." Roll clouds are a low, horizontal, tube-shaped, and a relatively rare type of cloud which are completely detached from other cloud features.
