The benefit entailed dinner, both a live and silent auction, raffles, games, and over 250 guests whose ticket purchases will go toward processing fees on large game and livestock, while the meat will be dispersed to various food organizations in need.

Families gathered this afternoon for the fifth annual meat the need livestock fundraiser.the goal..

To make sure no hoosier goes to bed hungry.fox 55's mallory beard met with organizers and volunteers to see how they're helping out food organizations throughout the state.

Debra treesh//executive director of hoosiers feeding the hungry "we serve dinner, we have live auction, silent auction raffles and a lot of games.

We have about 250 people that are gonna be in attendance."volunteers took each guests temperature before they entered the benefit.

Executive director debra treesh says the money raised at today's event will pay the processing fees for the livestock and deer donated throughout the year.debra treesh//executive director of hoosiers feeding the hungry "when we first started hoosiers feeding the hungry we had one meat processer, and we had five deer donated.

And my husband and i...the kids had grown up, we didn't need the deer, and we realized there was a large need for meat."

Treesh says food banks receive everything but one of the most important nutrients...meat.

She says it's often overlooked because of the cost.and that's where meat the need come's in.

The meat the need sponsors will provide over seventeen thousand servings of protein to families after today's benefit.
