Claudia's Kitchen fights to stay open amid pandemic

Claudia's Kitchen has seen a great deal of business during its six years located in the basement of the Buchanan County Courthouse.

Now, amid Covid-19, the small business is struggling.

Thanks ron, meanwhile local small businesses continue to feel the impacts of covid-19 including the little eatery in the basement of that buchanan county courthouse where ron spent some time today.

<<reporting ron johnson:since it opened about six years ago, claudia's kitchen has garnered a reputation for good cooking we do a lot of meals like meatloaf mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese comfort foodsdespite it's location in the basement of the county courthouse business for brigid read, the owner has been just as good as the food.it's a real good spot for me its within my meansthis is my passion this is what i like to dothat is of course until the covid-19 pandemic brought things to a screeching halt.

When the covid hit we tried our best stay afloat we did really good till they shut the building down, then i had no way to serve anyone.

Read says though they've since reopened, it's been a struggle to keep the restaurant going strong, she's had to cut her staff down by about half, as well as cut hours of operation.

Now we only work tuesday through friday and we're at 7:30 to 2:00the pandemic, read says has brought many changes, but through it all she's managed to weather the storm.i'm amazed that i'm still here.she says whatever the pandemic brings next, she plans to do her best to stick around.

You just gotta survive, so that's what i'm doing just holding on.
