In a parking lot in Oroville is where community members gather donations for Bear Fire survivors.

Store owners in Butte County are also donating a portion of their sales and even their own merchandise.

The bear fire has left hundreds of people without homes, food or water.

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso is in the parking lot of lakeside market in oroville what are people doing there to help the survivors of the bear fire?

Just up the road from here on hwy 162 is where the bear fire tore through the area.

Behind me you can see a lot of clothes, boxes, and bags.

Donations people have left for anyone that needs them.

"in tough times like this there are people that care and that want to spread the love and just helping out, that's our main goal."

"everybody's like your neighbor we see them every day.

It's just, it's the right thing to do."

Some people here in butte county spend most of their day cleaning and organizing donations for bear fire survivors.

"you don't have to have money to help people out, you don't have to have anything, just simply donating your time."

And lakeside market manager says it's the community that's kept them here for so long.

"if you're hungry, you can just come inside, we'll pay for it."

And that's why they're giving back.

"it feels unreal, you know, i never thought i'd be in this position, to begin with, i feel blessed to even be able to have the power to give back."

And for birkenstock store owner celeste baker, giving back -- is personal.

"i'm a survivor from the camp fire and i just know how difficult it was after that, and people were so generous.

Everybody was -- it was amazing after that fire, that everybody was extremely generous and so we're hoping to give back a little bit that way."

She's donating 20% of all sales through saturday to people affected.

"we're actually going to pick out some boots and some slippers, just stuff i hear that they need some warmer, you know, with fall coming on eventually.

We're going to pull a few things like that to send as well."

Live: when i was at birkenstock's in chico, i saw baker take a pair of shoes off the shelf remove the price tag and put it in a box to donate.

And even here, people picking up the trash and trying to organize it all in sections.

Just people wanting to lend a helping hand.
