Against that backdrop, one local institution of higher learning also has to deal with the impact of a disaster over a thousand miles away.

"* waldorf university, like many other schools has lots of students who take classes online.

Now, because of hurricane sally, they are not able to log in and learn.

Earlier today, i spoke with university president bob alsop.

He tells me the school has an office in orange beach alabama that is without power and water right now.

About 50 university employees work out of that facility.

Many online course instructors are impacted by the hurricane and the wildfires out west and are unable to teach their classes.

Students are being given more time to complete their assignments because of the natural disasters.

Alsop says there are about four thousand students across the country who are enrolled in waldorf's online courses.

He expects things to be back to normal at some point next week.
