HS FOOTBALL WEEK 3

- how about some baseball with- your football, here on the- news 25 friday night showcase..- alongside grace boyles... i'm - jeff- haeger... and it's week 3.- it's still early in the - season... however, we're alread- starting- to figure out who's who in this- 20-20 season.

- one question though, jeff...- what does baseball have - anything to do with football?

- i was hoping you would ask, - grace... because as fate would- have it... former ocean springs- pitcher garrett crochet -- who- was drafted 11th overall by the- chicago white sox, this summer- -- just got called up to the bi- leagues... on the same day his- greyhounds are serving as the - news 25 game of the week.

- and that's not all... 2-0 ocean- springs led by sophomore- quarterback bray hubbard... a - southern miss baseball- commit... also has an offer to- play football, at u-s-m...- hosting - 1-1 pascagoula.

- opening drive of the game...- this was pretty much the story- of the- night, for the panthers...- keilon parnell... going for - jaylan- thompson... can you put the - bread in the basket any - better than that... but the - senior can't haul it in... toug- break, for goula.

- meanwhile... ocean springs- didn't get its first, first - down... until more than seven - minutes into the game... nice - piece - of running, from david- humphries... fresh set of downs- for o-s.- same drive... greyhounds runnin- the triple option,- with hubbard... ayy bray bray..- shades of reggie bush, wearing- the number 5... completely- reversing fields... and this- kid is a problem, with his- legs... coming in with more tha- 150 - rushing yards per game.

- that sets it up for jahiel- mc-creary... who finds the- endzone, from about five yards- out... greyhounds strike- first... going up 7-- nothing, late in the first.

- more problems on offense, for - the panthers... parnell drops - the snap... and it's recovered- by payton porter... who's - apparently- invisible... because he went- totally un-blocked, on that - play... ball back to o-s... - who's a good boy.

- anyway... ensuing drive...- humphries showing what he - can do out in space...- completely un-touched... all th- way to the house... but grace..- referee dropped some- laundry on the field... and tha- play is coming all the way back- and that almost cost ocean- springs big time... going for - the - double pass... and goula is all- over it... as jak king throws i- right to a red jersey... but he- drops it... oh no... huge break- for - the greyhounds.

- and this time... they're just - gonna throw what they know... - which is actually running the - ball... hubbard pitch out to- humphries... burn one... the- junior scoring his second - touchdown of the drive... but - that's the only one that counts- greyhounds take a 14-nothing- lead into the second quarter...- and - that would be a sign of more- things to come... as o-s- improves- to 3-0 under blake pennock... - 38-14... final socre from hugh- pepper field.

- - due to the corona-virus - pandemic... gulfport almost - didn't have its first home- game... until october...- however, i stress the word- almost.

- that all changed last week, - jeff... with the admirals - picking - up tonight's week 3 match-up- against pearl river central...- which means we have friday nigh- lights at milner stadium in - september after all.- 0 and 2 gulfport hosting 2 - and 0 p-r-c... admirals - looking to win their sixth- - - - straight home opener... blue- devils hoping to start 3 and 0- for the first time since 2012.- we pick it up in the second - quarter with gulfport leading - 14-7.

- admirals quarterback breck le - flore still takes the - shotgun snap despite the rain -- le flore launches a pass- down field to the visitor's sid- line where receiver tavaris - henshaw makes the catch and - secures the gulfport first- down.

- two plays later... le flore - again in the shotgun... boink!- le flore can't seem to find the- - - - ball.

Linebacker brady johnson- finds it though and recovers th- fumble.

Blue devils take over - with six minutes left in the- half.

- - - - quarterback dalton lee under- center.

Lee quickly hands - off running back tyler herring- who breaks through the- admirals' d-line to pick up the- first down.

The blue devils'- drive - however haults after herring's- run.- just yunder 4 minutes left in - the half-- gulfport back- with the ball -- le flore waves- his runningback brendon tillman- -- tillman runs to the sideline- - psych - he runs up field- getting - hit from all sides until he's - finally taken down by a host of- blue- devil.- admirals continue their march - down the field this slant - pass to receiver gavin brown- with space and he sure does - capitalize on that-- moving the- sticks for the admirals again.- time ticking down before- halftime - le flore -- not shy- about using his arm in the rain- - - - -- connects with receiver - lushawn griffin who takes some- hits before being taken down- just- over 10 yards from the goaline.- admirals are unable to- punch in the ball during the- series and turnover on- downs.- gulfport ends up making up for- the scorless drive in the - second half as the admirals ear- their first victory of the- season over the blue devils, 42- - 14.

- - over at biloxi... where it's- only the second game of the - season- for both the 1-0 indians... and- the visiting 1-0 stone tomcats.- we pick it up second quarter...- indians leading 14- - nothing... but the tomcats are- driving... as carlos brown- almost takes one to the crib...- but a touchdown saving tackle,- from chance keith.- and biloxi not leaving anything- to chance, on the botched - snap... elijah sabbatini is all- over it... and that's a fumble- recovery, for the ole miss- commit... his second in as- many games... huge momentum - swing, right before the half...- and the future rebel letting th- crowd know.

- now grace... when you were a- kid... do you ever remember - going - into a restaurant... and there'- that random pinball - machine in the corner that's- never been reset... and - there's some high score on ther- in the millions... and- you just wonder who had that- much time on their hands to - get that score... well... it- might've been this guy... k-k - kendrick... - former news 25 student-athlete- of the week... playing a game o- pinball, with the stone - defense... and it's safe to say- he's winning... - i mean look at these runs... ho- in the world is he staying on - his - feet... three first down- carries... in one drive.- and the indians not done yet...- chad o'neal taking the direct - snap... and taking it directly- through the heart of that - stone defense... another biloxi- first down... but the drive - would - stall out, right before the - half... resulting in a big red- field goal.

- not to worry, though... indians- win this one going away... by - the final score of 38-zero... - biloxi improves to 2-0, on the- young season... stone... 1-1.

- - - - - lastly, 1 and 1 long beach- hosting 2 and 0 st.

- stanislaus... - rock-a-chaws looking for their- eighth win in a row over the- bearcats.

- rock-a-chaws start with the - ball.

S-s-c starts - with an onside kick which they- succ4essfully recover as well.- saint stanislaus takes over - - - - already in bearcat territory.

- later in their firdst series --- quarterback gage peterson - takes the shot gun snap hands o- stud running back gene- hoffman who cuts up field and - gets tripped up by a bearcat at- his ankles -- however -- not- before hoffman get gets the - first down.

- next play -- peterson keeps the- ball this time, testing out - - - - his own legs until he's attaced- by bearcat d- - lineman adam krol for the sack.- later in the first quarter -- - - - - the rock-a-chaws with the ball- again - -peterson this pitches- it to his other stud running- back- chandler chapman who breaks som- bearcat ankles- and stiff arms another bearcat- before being pushed out of- bounds-- almost on top of me --- moving the rock-a-chaws into- long beach territory.

- just two plays later -- peterso- this time entrusts the- ball to s-s-c's running back- davien legarde -- i don't blame- him!

Legarde gains enough for - yards for a first down and some- same series -- endzone just a - few yards away -- peterson take- the snap and evidently keeps th- - - - ball -- though i don't figure - that out until the quarterback- is down in the- endzone for the touchdown,- putting the rock-a-chaws on - the board first - 7 - nothing - late in the first quarter.- long beach gets the ball back - with a chance to strike back -- quarterback charlie starita - takes the snap under center --- makes a quick pass to receiver- dlijah robinson - robinson fake- out two rock-a-chaws and takes- - - - off -- he's pushed out of bound- still picking up the first down- though -- accompanied by- plenty of celebration.- - - - - - alright grace... you just saw - it... but it's time for the - w-x-x-v play- - - - of the day... which goes to - biloxi running back k-k - kendrick.

- i mean this kid must have a 99- elusive rating... can you - imagine - if they had a high school - football madden... that would b- sick... - anyway... this guy is definitel- in the top 10, on the gulf- coast... of - players i wouldn't want to try- to tackle... because- i don't think it would end well- for me... maybe you got it... - but - honestly, probably not.
