Russellville city schools did something similar the week of labor day.
Superintendent heath grimes said the district has only had two cases since the holiday weekend.
After students were out of school on monday - they were all virtual for the rest of the week.
Grimes said he made the call since students were at holiday gatherings and may have been around people outside of the classmates they're with on campus.
He said the decision then helped with controlling the spread when students came back the following week - since they had more time to monitor for symptoms. grimes said he knows for fall break students will be around family and friends - so it was an easy decision to be virtual the rest of the week and help contain any possible outbreak.
We know there are exposures that happen on weekends like that and holidays and breaks but not only that but it's the periodic one month to six weeks... we need a week out of school simply to stop the congregation.
Grimes told me they also sent out surveys to parents and teachers to see how the first full week of virutal school went after the labor day holiday.
He said about 75% of the reviews were positive but they are asking for suggestions on how to improve for the other 25%.
He said they are asking parents and teachers what else the system can provide them to help virutal schooling be more successful.

Fall break is from october 5th through 7th.
Students will then be virtual the thursday and friday following that.
